Festival of Trees

This morning we went to the annual Festival of Trees. It was a fun morning. We woke up this morning to a lot of snow. It was beautiful! The trees and ground were covered with fresh, glistening, white powder. It had snowed all night long. This definitely put us in the Christmas mood, so we went to see all of the Christmas trees.

Festival of Trees is put on by the Primary Children's Hospital every year. People decorate (incredibly) a tree and then donate it. It is sold to the highest bidder and all proceeds go to the hospital. It's always fun to stroll through all of the decorated trees and wreaths and gingerbread houses. I should say - it is fun when it is not packed with strollers! This is why we arrived right as it opened at 10:00 am and had a very nice walk through the trees.

Brie was fascinated with the decorations and the lights. It was cute to watch her point at everything that caught her eye.
I told Scott that we each had to choose our favorite tree and take a picture with it. I had many favorites. I took pictures of them all to give me good ideas. This one I really liked.
Scott chose the baseball themed tree as his favorite.
Brie was quite astonished by the whole thing. I think her favorite part though was eating the scone.  Posted by Picasa

Thank You Kea

Brielle wore one of Kea's dresses on Sunday. We've been waiting and wanting her to wear it, but it wasn't until The Children's Place had their big sale on Friday that we found the black turtle neck to go underneath it. It was only $4.00. So she finally got to wear Kea's dress and looked so cute. Thank you so much.

Brie wears almost all hand me downs to church and always looks so nice and cute. Thank you to all of you who make that possible.

News

While Scott and I were strolling through the tail gate parking lot before the BYU/Utah game we were stopped by a man with a camera. He took our picture and Scott told me that he was the sports reporter for KUTV Channel 2 News. Scott found the picture on their website below. Go to the fourth picture.

BYU vs. UTAH Game Day

I can truly count Saturday's BYU vs. University of Utah football game as one of my favorite experiences ever! It was a blast! For those who did not follow the big rivalry game, BYU threw for a touchdown with 3 seconds left and caught it to win the game!!! What a thrill! What total excitement. I was one of the lone cougar fans in a sea of red and I was yelling and screaming and jumping and waving my BYU blanket in the air. It was awesome.

We dropped Brie off with Fred and Rama while we went to the game. Rama was thrilled to have her and Brie is always VERY happy to be with Rama and her toys. She was dressed in red because 1. We had a red outfit for her and 2. We decided she would wear the color of the home team. It was a gorgeous day for a football game. We went up to our friend's tail gate party before going into the stadium and boy did I hear it from everyone as I walked through the tail gate lot in my BYU blue. I could tell a few experiences from this day that make me even more serious about the fact that I do not ever want one of my kids going to the U, but for now I'll say that Utah fans are vicious. Good thing I had a group of friends dressed in red surrounding me. We played "Holy Board" (because you throw rings into holes, not because it is holy) and hung out and I continued to be heckled. At half time we went to find Brian and Davin. Much to my surprise, Brian was wearing RED (a BYU-Hawaii shirt) and Davin had a "U" painted on his cheek! What??? It was very fun to see them. I love that Davin kid.The second half was SOOOOO intense. The last 3 minutes were even more intense. In the end, I was the happiest one in the crowd. Finally! BYU won! They have lost every single game in every single sport ever since I married a Ute, but finally they won. Here is some of our group at the game. Scott and I in front of the final score board!

The Day After

The day after Thanksgiving was just as fun! Scott and I had carefully looked over the After Thanksgiving Day ads of every store for their sales and doorbuster prizes. We had decided there was really nothing that we wanted to buy, so we weren't going to bother going out with the crowd. But, if you know us, we don't want to miss the party, so we headed out into the crowds anyway. Brie had us all awake by 7am, so we left the house and didn't really return. We went to the mall, Target, Circuit City, TJ Maxx, Mervyns and really only bought a of couple shirts for Brielle. We mostly wanted to see the action of the day after Thanksgiving.

After shopping, we picked up our friends Digby (Rick) and his wife Arielle for lunch. They are visiting from Philidelphia. They wanted real Mexican food and we had it. Yum. Brie enjoyed the lemon. For some reason she loves sucking on them. Sidenote: Not one of us had showered or gotten ready for the day. We had lunch and then met up with Greg and Bradley to go to the zoo. It was a gorgeous day to walk around the zoo and it was the first time that Brie actually noticed the animals. She looked stunned and amazed!
Scott had Brie show her bear to the real bears.
This is a cute picture of her watching the giraffes in total amazement.
After the zoo, we rushed home to get our house ready for a very spontaneous party. Scott had all of his closest friends (and some wives and kids) over for the evening. Many of them were in town for the holiday, so it was great to see them. It was so fun to hear all of their stories. It really sounds like they were good kids, did well in school, and had a great time too. They have some hilarious stories to tell. Posted by Picasa

Thanksgiving with the Buchanans

We had a very nice Thanksgiving day with the Buchanan family. We love Thanksgiving! Scott, Brie and I woke up nice and early on Thanksgiving morning and watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. I think the parade is so much fun to watch - especially when it is pouring rain there and nice and cozy warm in our house. We were also preparing our turkey for cooking. We tried a new trick this year - we always rub the turkey down with lemon, salt and olive oil, but this year we added oranges and apples. We stuffed it full and all around the edges with oranges, lemons, apples and onion so that it would have plenty of juices to cook in.

Before:After:The turkey was finished in no time, so we went to Fred and Rama's for the festivities. We had dinner with Fred, Rama, Brian, Rachel, Annabelle, Clara and my brother Bryce. We had all of the most delicious food. I even really liked the candied sweet potatoes thanks to Rachel.
I am trying so hard (well, kind of hard) to have Brie wear head bands. I want her to get used to them so she won't fight one in the family picture. It's not working. Here is our memorable Mother/Daughter Thanksgiving picture. While Scott was playing with the turkey bird, Brie found her own birds that she loved watching and yelling at. The look on her face makes me think she has an idea for cooking those up too.

We left Fred and Rama's and went home to watch a movie with Bryce. He stayed and hung out and talked to us until 12:30am! We don't stay up that late anymore! It was fun and very insightful. We also had some other friends over to join in the discussion. Another great Thanksgiving day with family and friends.

Give Kisses

So Brielle has a couple new tricks up her sleeve . . . one of them being to give kisses. It is hilarious. It makes Scott and I laugh so hard. I say, "Give Mama kisses", and she opens her mouth so wide with her tongue out and latches on to any part of my face she lands on. I am literally covered in spit by the end of this display of affection. The other night Scott was lying on his back on the floor and I told Brie to give Daddy kisses. She of course opened up wide and locked her whole mouth around his nose!!! Nasty!

I was trying to get pictures of her standing today, but she kept coming after me to offer more kisses, so this is what I got. She was climbing all over me. What a funny, and apparently very loving, girl.

Big Winner

I "won" my very first Ebay auction this morning! It was so exciting to watch the time count down and hope that my bid would be the winner and no one would come along at the last minute and out bid me. No one did! I won! I can see why this is so addicting.

I started looking for a Christmas dress for Brielle recently. I bought one on sale last January for her for Christmas this year, but it is not going to work in the Buchanan family portrait, so I started looking for another. They are very expensive. I saw this one on Ebay and thought it was so pretty. I bought it for only $11.75. It is brand new with the tags. I can't wait for it to get here. I'm thrilled with the dress and thrilled with the price. An early Merry Christmas.

Missionary Exit

Well, just a few short hours ago Evan (Elder Allred) went through the doors marked "Missionary Exit" and we all left through the doors marked "Family Exit" at the MTC It has been exciting.

Yesterday we went to the Jordan River Temple together. Those in the session were Grandma, Mom, Dad, me, Bryce and Evan. I realized I had not ever been in the temple with Bryce. It was very neat for me to be there with both Bryce and Evan. We had a nice time together. In the celestial room, Mom and Dad told us about their contribution to help build that temple.

After the temple we came back to my house for dinner and Dad and Bryce came home from the grocery store with a "Party Keg" of Cream Soda for Evan's send off party. Pretty funny, eh?This morning we all met in Provo for breakfast. It was fun to talk to Evan before his final departure. He seemed to be happy and excited. I could not get him to admit to any emotion in particular, but I would say he was excited, anxious and a little nervous. Because of all those emotions, Evan was unable to eat his Lumberjack breakfast . . . so Brielle did. She chowed on those pancakes. We arrived at the MTC and after Evan dropped off his luggage we took the traditional pictures. He walked into the building and they gave him his missionary name tag. He had a very hard time figuring out how to get the dang thing on. His suit pocket was still sewn shut.
One last picture with Brie before we put the cameras away and headed into the meeting. It was a good and short meeting. We sang "Called To Serve" , heard the talks, watched the video and that quick it was over and we had to say good bye. Evan did just as he was told, he gave everyone a quick hug and "I love you" and walked through the missionary exit door. There were no tears from him, but there certainly were from his siblings. We love Evan and will miss him, but are THRILLED for all that is to come in the next two years for him. I wish him success and hope he enjoys all the experiences a mission brings. In one of the talks they told the missionaries how they would meet people on their missions that would become some of the most important and special and cherished people in their lives. I thought of Ana and Walter Gamboa and Clara Maciel and that family of eight girls in Concordia and so many others. I love that I met those special people on my mission and that I was the one that got to teach them of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I hope Evan finds "his" people and loves them just as much. For now, best of luck to him on his first night in the MTC.

Scott's Birthday Dinner

Scott's birthday was so fun. We wish that all of you could have been with us.

He got out of work early for his birthday, so we dropped Brie off with Grandma Rama and went to the movie that Scott has been desperately waiting for, "Stranger Than Fiction". It was very good. I am not a big fan of Will Ferrell, but I really liked him in this movie. The story was quite clever and original. During the movie I presented Scott with his traditional Birthday Cheese Ball. That is right - cheese ball. I asked Scott if he wanted a cake for his birthday on the very first of his birthdays that we celebrated together and he told me no, because he doesn't love dessert. Well, he does love CHEESE! So Randi made him a cheese ball and we put candles all over it. This year there were no candles because we were in a movie theater, but there was a Birthday Cheese Ball and wheat thin crackers and a diet coke to enjoy during the movie.

After the movie, we met my family (that is here) and Scott's family (that is here) at Buca De Beppo's for dinner. It was so cool. We had "The Pope's Table" reserved and it fit all of us in a big circle so that we could see and talk to each other. As you can see it was decorated with all "Pope" memorabilia.
Dinner was delicious. We had Gnocchis and pizza and spaghetti and pork. Then the dessert came. Wowee! It was sooooooo good.
Scott had the birthday song sung to him with a whole candelabra to blow out. Very cool.
It was a fun, fun night. Thank you so much to those who celebrated with us and made Scott feel special on his day. Thank you so much to everyone else for the phone calls and cards. You are very good to us. Posted by Picasa
