Best Friends

Brie and I returned last night from Blackfoot, Idaho. Kamber is here visiting with her daughter Samantha from London. It was so fun to be with them.

Kamber and I were roommates for nine years. As Scott likes to say, we were legally married in most states. :) We went through college and missions and Boston together. She married Scott's roommate one year after Scott and I were married. We have been best friends for 11 years!

When Kamber and Brian got married they moved to London, England so Brian could work at a law firm there. I miss them and don't like that they live SO FAR away.

The exciting part is that Kamber and I are 17 days apart and this past December we had our first baby girls only 11 days apart! So we have it all planned out that they will be best friends also. This weekend we took the girls to get their pictures taken together. Here are the pictures from their first photo shoot.

The two girls had so much fun playing together. Well, maybe it was that we had so much fun watching them. They rolled all over the floor and all over each other. They got to have their first sleep over. And Samantha even helped teach Brie how to eat oatmeal. We'll miss Kam and Sam when they head back to Europe.

Hiking

I am leading the women of the Relief Society on a hike in Mill Creek Canyon next Tuesday. It is one of our mini enrichment activities. I wanted to be well prepared with the right hike for the women, so Scott, Brielle and I went on a few different hikes yesterday and today to try them out. The canyon is beautiful and we found some great hikes. Wish me luck on taking the sisters hiking through the wilderness!

Arts Festival

Today was Salt Lake City's annual Arts Festival. It is a fun festival. They have lots of booths with all different kinds of art represented. There are also bands playing and great food. We walked through the booths and then enjoyed a ham and cheese crepe and a lemon juice crepe. Brielle's favorite part was the belly dancers!

Good Literature

I have been reading Steinbeck's book "East of Eden". Every time I am reading though Scott comes in and interrupts. I told him he should find a good book and we could have some reading time. So last night I came into our room and was asked to please not interrupt because he was reading some good literature.

New Baby Cousin Aiden

We got a very exciting phone call on Tuesday. Landon and Sarah had their new baby boy! Brielle has a new cousin. We got to go visit him that afternoon. He is a very cute boy. He has a lot of hair and was a healthy eight pounds. Shocking! Here are some pictures of the proud parents and cute little Lowell Aiden Allred.

Happy First Father's Day

This was Scott's very first Father's Day! It was a great one. Brielle made a special tie for Scott with the primary kids. We just painted her feet different colors and walked them up the tie. All the dads wore their painted ties to church on Father's Day.

To celebrate Father's Day we got to go stay at The Little America in the tower room. (We won this night's stay at Scott's high school reunion last summer.) We dropped Brie off with Grandma Rama and Papa Fred and got to have a whole afternoon and evening to ourselves. We went to the hotel and swam and layed in the sun and then went to dinner. Brie joined us for the night and we just lounged around our very fancy suite all Father's Day morning. It was wonderful!

Scottish Festival and Highland Games

Well, I thought it only appropriate that I begin the Buchanan Clan blog with a picture of the Buchanan Clan at the Scottish Festival and Highland games. It was June 10 at Thanksgiving Point. It was a gorgeous day and so much fun. Fred (Scott's dad) was chosen as "Chieftain of the Games". This was a big honor. They started the day with a mass pipe band. There were probably 8 full bag pipe and drum bands that marched and played on to the field. They played a special song for Fred as the chieftain and then he announced the games as open. Then all the clans (families) marched in a parade wearing their different tartans. The Buchanan Clan was well represented with Brian and Scott each in their kilts and the girls in their Buchanan tartan hair ribbons. We then ate and watched the games. The games are fascinating sports such as seeing how high you can throw a sheath (bail of hay), how far you can throw a caber (telephone pole), how high you can throw a weight, etc. It was a great day. We hope you can all join us next year!

Test, test, test

I am trying to start a blog for our family. This is my first test.
