We celebrated Pioneer Day with ALL of the
ALLREDS! Everyone came to town for our Family Fun House in Bear Lake and the fun started with Pioneer Day in Salt Lake City. We had the Hughes family, Jessica, Bryce,
Tawna and Krista staying with us. The rest were scattered between Landon's house and Grandma's house. It was a good time. We joined in ALL the Pioneer Day festivities.
We first took the Hughes kids up into our mountains to "walk and walk and walk and waaaaallllkk" (as Pioneer children) around Silver Lake and have a picnic lunch. It was a beautiful day and I think they liked the "walk" but were disappointed that we were not scaling rocks to climb all the way up the mountain. Next time.

On Friday night we (of course) went the Days of '47 Rodeo! It was our first time at the rodeo. We thought the kids would love it. Most of them did not. We watched them rope calves and ride around barrels and then we were done. I made my kids stay to see just a few bull rides though.

Way too early the next morning (5am) Scott and I got up, put on our running shoes and left the rest asleep to go run the
Deseret News 10K. We had a great time. After the race we got a bundle of bagels from Einsteins and spread out all of our blankets to save a spot for everyone at the Days of '47 Parade. The parade was fun to watch. We saw marching bands, bagpipers and lots of floats. We all had a good time as long as there was candy thrown to the kids and shade for everyone else. At one point the kids were laying themselves in the street chanting "Candy! Candy! Candy!" and the "we're so used to the heat" Bakersfield folk were all lined up in the shade of one lamp post. Hilarious!

When the parade ended we visited Temple Square and had lunch at The Lion House. The great Pioneer Day Miracle of 2010 was when The Lion House unloaded ALL the desserts they had left onto our tables. We tasted every cake and pie . . . in honor of the Pioneers of course.
Our Pioneer Day BBQ and firework show was at our house. We grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and had watermelon, corn on the cob, potato salad, chips, root beer, etc. All that you would expect of a BBQ.

The kids played in the backyard on the swing set, in the pool, with the baseball, blowing bubbles and on the slip n' slide until the fireworks began.

Steve, Brian and Scott hosted the fireworks show in the front yard and it was a good one!

Happy Pioneer Day! It was quite the celebration, Utah style.

Great party! It is fun to remember being there with you. In Bakersfield we have a saying, "follow the shade", we know what to do when it gets warm/hot.
I LOVE the new picture of your family!
Great post! I love reading about the great times we had.
Oh to be young again and enjoy all the exciting activities of July 24. The pictures and comments are great.
