October Traditions

I guess this is exactly how family traditions start. There are certain things that we've done every October and now . . . ta da, we have fall traditions. Yahoo! One of them is visiting the witches from my previous post and the others are a campfire in Millcreek Canyon to see the fall leaves, the Kirkin O The Tartan and of course, for Halloween we've got to carve pumpkins. Here they are:

Millcreek Canyon
The leaves changing colors in the canyons is absolutely one of my favorite things. It is beautiful!! We took Fred and Rama with us to see all the reds, yellow and oranges in Millcreek Canyon and to have a campfire. We roasted hot dogs and had potato salad, chips, Root Beer and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. It was fun to have Fred and Rama with us. It was a beautiful day. We finished things up by attempting to roast apples in the fire and then rolling them in cinnamon sugar. The roasting was an adventure, but the tasting was delicious!Brie and Ava played hide and seek with each other.

The Kirkin O' Th' Tartan

Again we attended the First Presbyterian Church on Sunday for the Kirkin o' th' Tartan. This time we took our kids and Tawna (Fred wasn't feeling up to it). Zachary got to wear his little kilt and walk up with Scott to represent Clan Buchanan. We always like this service. The bag pipes and drums in that church are amazing! And to top it all off - all the shortbread you can eat afterward!Pumpkin Carving

Scott came home with two beautiful pumpkins on Tuesday. He and the girls drew the faces that they wanted on the pumpkins, then he did the carving. Ava was too scared to have her pumpkin get cut. She had to leave them room so she wouldn't have to see it. They both dove in to get the "guts" out though and were quite thrilled with the Jack O Lanterns. Scott and I were thrilled with all the pumpkin seeds we roasted and then ate once they went to bed. Soooooo good!
I was making Peruvian Lomo Saltado for dinner while they were carving.
Finished pumpkins!
