Scottish Festival and Highland Games

Well, I thought it only appropriate that I begin the Buchanan Clan blog with a picture of the Buchanan Clan at the Scottish Festival and Highland games. It was June 10 at Thanksgiving Point. It was a gorgeous day and so much fun. Fred (Scott's dad) was chosen as "Chieftain of the Games". This was a big honor. They started the day with a mass pipe band. There were probably 8 full bag pipe and drum bands that marched and played on to the field. They played a special song for Fred as the chieftain and then he announced the games as open. Then all the clans (families) marched in a parade wearing their different tartans. The Buchanan Clan was well represented with Brian and Scott each in their kilts and the girls in their Buchanan tartan hair ribbons. We then ate and watched the games. The games are fascinating sports such as seeing how high you can throw a sheath (bail of hay), how far you can throw a caber (telephone pole), how high you can throw a weight, etc. It was a great day. We hope you can all join us next year!
